About Meet Jon

Jonthebrick was founded by Jon Wood – BA (hons), B. Arch. He brings more than twenty years of building skills as well as ten years design expertise to his architectural practice.

He spent more than 20 years as a bricklayer, foreman bricklayer and builder . Through this work he developed a deep understanding of site work and the process of building.

He subsequently academically qualified in Architecture and has pursued his interest in materials and how they relate to place. This on going exploration means that his designs are lead more by the qualities of materials in their context (for example the description of light on materials) rather than by the computer-aided form. He therefore generates most of his ideas through hand drawings, feeling that this discipline adds imagination and rigour to designs.

He has worked at a community architects practice in Manchester (CTAC) and the award-winning practice Greenhill Jenner Architects in Clerkenwell.

Jon has also taught Architecture at the Manchester School of Architecture and is near the completion of a Masters in ‘Writing the City’ at Westminster which takes the city and the built environment for it’s inspiration. Read some of his work.
